We currently have an opportunity for an experienced Senior Dietician to join our Residential Aged Care team.

The Senior Dietitian’s role is responsible for providing expertise and recommendations relating to dietetic interventions in response to the service requirements of a facility. This position will also mentor, supervise and coordinate other dietitians to ensure a quality allied health service, working across sites as required.

We offer 12 months fixed term part time contact for parental leave cover working 30 hours per fortnight.

This position represents a senior therapist in the profession of Dietetics, act as an expert consultant in the specified clinical area and supports the Service Manager (residential) and multi-disciplinary team in matters relating to client and staff safety in regard to complex nutritional requirements.

Key Duties/Accountabilities

  • Ensure all care/rehabilitation practices are provided in a manner that promotes the personal values of the client, and adheres to relevant policies of Brightwater Care Group, appropriate professional Code of Ethics, and to relevant legislation affecting professional practice and other relevant standards and guidelines.
  • Use highly developed dietetics skills to assess, plan, prescribe, implement and evaluate individualised outcome-based nutrition care/support plans within an interdisciplinary team model, in partnership with the client and their representatives and other relevant stakeholders, ensuring that nutrition care/support plans for the clients are relevant and appropriate.
  • Utilise a leadership approach to mentor, train, supervise and support fellow Dietitians, Allied Health professionals, clinical and other staff. This includes participating in the recruitment and selection of new staff, identifying learning/development needs, participating in Staff Reviews, and supporting performance management processes.
  • Proactively maintain knowledge of contemporary dietetics practices through research and publication reviews and use knowledge to contribute to service improvements and facilitate education to others through group forums.
  • Delegate the implementation of nutritional supports to site staff, by providing clear communication and education when needed. Regularly obtain feedback from site staff and interdisciplinary team regarding client’s response to the dietetics interventions in order to enhance the creation and maintenance of the home/social environment in which emotional, physical, spiritual and cultural needs are met.
  • Assist with the review, implementation and monitoring of clinical policies and procedures and ensure that Brightwater documentation is completed to the required standard.
  • Communicate with clients and their representatives in regards to identifying the client’s individualised goals, developing the client’s nutrition care plan, and answering questions; facilitate relevant education and training in relation to nutrition support, and provide information about dietetics treatment and care.
  • Lead and provide a Dietetics service as part of the overall Allied Health Service that is equitable, responsible, cost effective and efficient, with appropriate coordination and use of human and other resources. This includes supporting the ACFI process (residential only), NDIS process, and relevant business requirements.
  • Act as a positive role model for all staff, demonstrating behaviour in line with Brightwater’s Mission, values, policies and procedures, and use highly developed problem-solving skills to resolve conflict at the earliest opportunity while promoting a positive and adaptable team environment. This includes fostering a culture that is inclusive of diversity in age, gender, race, ethnicity, religion, sexuality, sexual identity and disability.
  • Provide leadership in relation to identifying areas for improvement. This includes collaborating with colleagues, facilitating quality improvement activities and acting as an effective change agent in response to agreed changes.

To be successful in this role, you will need to meet the following Selection Criteria:

  • Tertiary qualification in Dietetics and registered as an Accredited Practising Dietitian (APD) with Dietitians Australia (DA).
  • Extensive experience within geriatric nutrition, including demonstrated advanced skills in completing nutritional assessments and implementing individualised medical nutrition therapy for complex conditions prevalent in older adults (e.g., dementia, sarcopenia, wound healing, enteral nutrition, and chronic disease management).
  • Demonstrated experience providing clinical supervision, onboarding, and mentoring to junior dietitians or allied health assistants, alongside delivering workforce training to care and catering teams.
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills to work effectively within an interdisciplinary team (facility managers, nurses, speech pathologists, occupational therapists, and catering staff).
  • Knowledge of the strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards, specifically Standard 6 (Food and Nutrition), with proven experience leading continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Working knowledge of Safety and Health legislation; and where relevant the Aged Care Act (1997) and Aged Care Quality Standards, National Standards for Disability Services, Transition Care Program and/or care packages.

 You will also be required to have

  • Current ‘C’ Class Driver’s Licence.
  • Satisfactory National Police Certificate obtained within the last 12 months.
  • A valid NDIS Clearance
