We are currently seeking applications for a Therapy Assistant to join our disability team, working at Oats Street site located in East Victoria Park.

This position is offered on a permanent part-time basis working 15 hours per fortnight. Ideally you will be available to work every Friday, however we are willing to be flexible with the right candidate.

Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team under the direction and delegation of allied health professionals, Therapy Assistants provide assistance in all aspects of day-to-day care and individualised therapy, lifestyle and leisure programs to meet the needs of Brightwater Care Group clients. Therapy Assistants support clients in therapeutic and recreational activities and provide feedback on clients’ health, wellbeing and progress to therapists to enable appropriate goal setting and program review.

 

About the site:

At our Oats Street site, we focus on providing rehabilitation for clients living with acquired brain injury (ABI). The Oats Street rehabilitation program was born from the concept of neuroplasticity. Since 1991, Brightwater has been an innovator in the area of acquired brain injury (ABI), assisting people with an ABI to build new pathways.

To be suitable for this role, you must possess:

  • Certificate III or IV in Allied Health Assistance (Aged Care/Disability), or progress towards or significant experience in a related setting and a willingness to undertake appropriate training, or progress towards relevant Allied Health Professional tertiary qualification.
  • Have a strong commitment to providing safe high-quality care.
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills with clients, colleagues, and supervisors.
  • Strong person-centred skills in communicating and engaging with clients with high support needs including cognitive impairment, brain injury, and dementia.
  • Demonstrated ability to work without direct supervision, organise and prioritise tasks, work effectively under pressure, problem solve and meet deadlines.
  • Current valid driver’s licence to drive in Western Australia, as defined by the WA Department of Transport (DoT)
  • A safe, registered, and suitably insured motor vehicle able to be used for work purposes.
  • NDIS Worker Screening Clearance
  • Satisfactory National Police Certificate obtained within the last 12 months

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Provision of goal directed therapy programs in accordance with their Care Plan in group or individual settings
  • Provision of recreational based activities to meet the social and emotional needs of clients
  • Contributing to the development of innovative therapy programs to improve the wellbeing of our clients
  • Supporting volunteers to enhance the site therapy program
  • Contributing to site reporting, accreditation standards and legislative compliance by completing all documentation and reporting incidents
